ToggleHowever, one of the biggest hurdles we often encounter is motivation. It’s easy to get tired, discouraged, and ultimately give up on our fitness journey.
If you’re tired of being overweight, unhappy, and unhealthy but can’t seem to stay motivated, this article is for you.
In this blog post, we will discuss some tips and tricks on staying motivated when trying to lose weight and get healthy.
Find Your Why
Ask yourself why you’re trying to get healthy and lose weight.
It could be a combination of things such as wanting to look better in clothes, increasing your energy levels, decreasing high blood pressure/cholesterol, or feeling better about yourself overall.
Once you determine your reasons for wanting to get healthier and fit, write them down somewhere visible.
I also encourage you to go deep to really understand why you’re investing your time and energy in this goal. Fitting into smaller clothes is great, but the ultimate reason might be something more powerful. For example, setting a good example for your overweight kid is a much more powerful motivation.
Answer this question: how your life is going to be different if you achieve this goal?
Start by Sleeping Better
Improving your sleeping patterns can be the best way to start your weight loss journey.
Research suggests that lack of sleep can lead to increased hunger and cravings for unhealthy foods. So, making sure you get 7-8 hours of quality rest each night is key.
Also, lack of sleep can make you too tired to feel motivated.
Find Ways to Make It Easier
Too tired to cook healthy food? You can try meal prepping or ordering healthy food delivery services.
Don’t feel like going to the gym? Take a walk; make it simple.
Let Perfection Go
You don’t have to be perfect. Following a very strict diet might seem overwhelming. Instead of being a perfectionist, focus on creating healthy habits you can stick with for a long time.
As an old Chinese proverb says, “It is better to take many small steps in the right direction than to make a great leap forward only to stumble backward.”
It is also okay to eat a piece of cake or other foods not on your plan. The important thing is that you keep trying and never give up.
Set Small Goals
It is easy to feel discouraged and lose motivation when you don’t see immediate results.
To help you stay motivated, start setting small goals. If you want to lose 50 pounds, your first goal could be to lose 5.
This can make weight loss possible and give you the motivation to start.
Celebrate Small Accomplishments
Every time you reach a small goal or make progress towards a larger one, reward yourself in some way. This could be something as simple as giving yourself time to take a relaxing bath.
Examples of small accomplishments include scale and non-scale victories. For example:
- Drinking eight glasses of water every day
- Exercising for any amount of time
- Meal prepping for the next day or week
- Losing one pound
- Tasting a new vegetable
- Eating a small piece of cake instead of a large piece
Keeping a non-scale victory journal is great way to keep motivated.
Seek Professional Guidance
It is always better to seek professional guidance when beginning any weight loss journey. A registered dietitian can provide advice on how to start eating healthier and what type.
Also, a personal trainer can help with an exercise routine that is tailored to you.
Set Realistic Goals
One of the key reasons why people lose motivation is because they set impossible goals.
Instead of trying to lose 50 pounds in a month, make it a goal to lose one pound a week. This makes your goal more achievable and increases motivation.
Once you’ve achieved your first goal, set another one and keep going.
Find an Accountability Partner
Accountability is essential when it comes to staying motivated. Find someone who shares similar goals as you and hold each other accountable.
Check-in with each other regularly and encourage one another. If you’re feeling unmotivated, your accountability partner can
Visualize Your Success
Visualizing yourself achieving your ultimate goal can help keep you motivated. Imagine how you will look and feel and what other positive changes will come from being healthy.
Write down your goals and look at them daily. Visualize yourself achieving them and the positive impact they will have on your life.
Create Routines
Creating routines helps remove the need for motivation.
If you exercise every day as soon as you wake up, you don’t have to spend mental energy on when to do it.It’s already part of your routine.
Do the same with healthy eating. Create habits and stick to them.
Remove Negative Influences
Negative people can take away your motivation. Distance yourself from those who bring you down and surround yourself with positive people who will cheer you on.
If you’re constantly comparing yourself to others, try to stop. It’s easy to compare your success with someone else’s, but it’s not a good idea.
Everyone is on their own journey and will reach milestones at different times. Focus on what you can do today and stay in the present moment instead of worrying about what
My Expert Opinion
Allow yourself to feel tired. Just make one tiny change and see how you feel.
Be kind to yourself, and love and accept the body you are in now. This will allow you to move forward to achieve your goals.
